Hockey Stars
for Hope is an international Non-Profit organization that “Helps
Kids Play” who have the passion but not the financial resources to
enjoy the game of hockey. Founded in 2005, HSFH now operates in 6
countries worldwide. There are over 50 million children in developed
countries that live in a low income environment. These children
struggle medically, in the classroom, and in social environments
resulting in challenges for their well being as young adults. HSFH
feels that these character building traits can help enrich
children’s lives and “Breakaway” from a low income environment. These character building traits can help

children’s lives. Our mission is directed to serving youth living in
financially challenged families through 2 specific programs.
HSFH “Help a
Kid Play” Program: This program raises funds through public
sponsorship, corporate partnerships and proceeds from special events
for children living in financially challenged families to afford
registration fees and equipment enabling them to experience and
enjoy the game of HOCKEY. more
HSFH “Play it
Again” Program: This program is an on-line recycling program of
used equipment easing the pressure on financially challenged
families for their children’s equipment needs to enjoy the game of
HOCKEY. more |

| In a national
poll commissioned by Pepsi and released on February 17, 2004, it was
found that: |

- 66% of Canadians feel that hockey is
becoming elitist due to its high costs to play |

- 82% of Canadians surveyed agree that
all children living in Canada should have the opportunity to play
hockey if they want to |

| |
|
- 65% of Canadians either do not know
or don’t realize that it costs more for a child to play hockey for a
season then it does for a low-income family of four to buy groceries
for two months, pay rent for a month or provide clothing for one
child for six months |

|
- 36% of Canadians feel that companies
and corporations have a social responsibility to help families who
can’t afford registration to experience the game of hockey while 54%
said the responsibility lies with the communities in which the
families live |

- 79% of Canadians surveyed said it’s
the history or tradition of the game of hockey that makes it such a
big deal in Canada; 12% said it’s hitting, checking and fighting |
| |
| |
|
- when asked to choose from a list of
benefits, 41% of Canadians surveyed agree that ‘learning to be a
team player’ is the most important benefit that kids get from
playing hockey, followed by physical exercise (20%), sheer pleasure
of the game (19%), learning how to win and lose (7%), self-esteem
(7%), leadership (1%) |
